The liver is responsible for many processes including blood clotting, protein synthesis, digestion, detoxification, and storage. When the liver malfunctions, it can cause serious issues such as cirrhosis, hepatitis, liver failure, and even cancer. Hepatitis B and C are two types of viral infections that affect the liver. Other forms of cancer that can occur in the liver include hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), cholangiocarcinoma, and metastatic cancers. HCC is the most common type of liver cancer and is often caused by chronic infection with either hepatitis B virus or hepatitis C virus. Metastatic cancers are cancers that have spread to other parts of the body. Following are the habits to prevent liver cancer 


1. Quit smoking 

Smoking causes many forms of cancer including lung cancer, mouth cancer, throat cancer, esophagus cancer, larynx cancer, bladder cancer, kidney cancer, pancreas cancer, stomach cancer, colon cancer, rectal cancer, prostate cancer, liver cancer, and cervical cancer. Smoking also increases the risk of heart disease, stroke, emphysema, chronic bronchitis, pneumonia, and peripheral vascular disease.


 2. Stay away from alcohol 

Alcohol contains toxins, carcinogens, and poisons. Alcohol consumption causes liver damage and damages the functioning of the brain. Drinking alcohol affects the immune system, causing liver inflammation and leading to cirrhosis.


 3. Limit caffeine intake 

Caffeine is a psychoactive substance and is known to cause anxiety, insomnia, headaches, palpitations, tremors, irregular heartbeat, high blood pressure, depression, and irritability. Caffeine is toxic to the body and can lead to liver problems and even death if consumed in excess amounts.


 4. Eat a balanced diet 

A balanced diet means eating foods rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. These foods help fight free radicals and protect the cells from oxidative damage. A balanced diet includes fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean meats, fish, beans, nuts, seeds, eggs, dairy products, and oils.


 5. Get enough sleep 

Sleep is important for the proper function of the human body. Sleep helps the body repair damaged tissue, release hormones, and maintain muscle tone. Lack of sleep can increase the risk of obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and certain cancers.
